  • I know this is being discussed at many places, even here, but so far I couldn't find a solid answer (or didn't understand it).

For a mobile DJ, indoors, less than 200pp events, mixed genres music (80s, 90s, EDM, Latin, Rock), square rooms sized for those 200pp, what would you recommend to pair 2K10s:

    2 x Ksub or 2 x KW181?

Or in other words, when to use KSub and when to use KW181 if portability is not a constraint?

I have 2KSub and one KW181. I have used both and can't make my mind. The KSub sounds "nicer" but KW181 has the energy you need to transmit to dance floor. I'm thinking of selling my 2Ksub and get a new KW181 so I don't have to decide each time......

I would love to here more experienced mobile DJs.

    Cheers

  • The KSub has the advantage of better portability. The larger enclosure of the KW181, though, gives it a little better acoustic output and low-frequency extension.

  • Thanks as always Bob. For those 200pp, 1 or 2 KW181? Cheers

  • As always, depends on how loud you want to go for those 200 people. If you've got space to transport it all, a 2nd sub will give you more volume, or you could turn them down a bit so you're less likely to damage anything.

Have you got anything hitting the limiters yet?

  • Thanks Chris. It's not a matter of volume. I have always been very satisfied with volume. My gigs are usually below 200 pp. What I am still not satisfied with is the bass level. I like (personal taste) the bass to be present and be felt in the chest (reasonably). I purchased yesterday a 2nd KW181. I will try it at next gig.

Answering your question, I have never hit the limiters. I use all QSC gain knobs at 12 O'Clock, my Pioneer DDJ-SX with individual gain knobs at 9 O'Clock and Master gain at 12'00 to 2PM therefore is very unlikely to hit limitres. Am I right? I also use a DBX 215, reinforcing the 60Hz and 100Hz and reducing a little bit mids frequencies.

    Any tip???

    Cheers guys.

  • If you want more subwoofer, have you tried turning it/them up?
